Thought tonight would be a calm early night in.
Of course, Isie had a different idea.
She swallowed a rock.
Not just an ordinary rock, but a polished glass rock.
About 1 inch long, 1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch tall.
So not too big, but seriously, she swallowed it?!
I just want to hit my head into the wall.
She was playing with the rock during her bedtime story.
I took it from her and put it away.
Obviously it didn't stay put away.
She came out crying that she swallowed the rock.
Aside from being upset about the issue she was breathing fine.
I calmed her down, got her a drink of water, and tucked her into bed.
From the flattened penny incident (remember when she swallowed that?!)
I know that a swallowed object does one of three things:
1. lodges in the throat- this leads to immediate breathing issues
2. goes into the lungs- leads to coughing and wheezing
3. goes into the tummy and is passed out in 2-4 days
Well I know it is not #1
She is coughing a lot (I think because of the crying) but I decide to call poison control anyway.
We are already in their records...
concrete mix (Pete), penny (Isie), ear medicine (Isie), backyard mushrooms (Isie)
They tell me what I already mentioned and told me to follow up with the pediatrician.
By the time the pediatrician on call gets back to me Isie is calm and no longer coughing.
We decide it must be #3.
I will be watching for abdominal cramping, but I think she'll be fine.
Oh, but during all of this she makes herself poop.
In her poop we see some sparkle.
Not the freshly swallowed rock (of course),
nope, a metal clasp from a keychain.
She is a goat!!
(Perhaps Dr.Teodori used a goat vein not a cow?)
